little birdie

little birdie, you pretty fire tail

an instant to admire your beauty before me, a bright flash of colour

a thud

a plume of feathers

you were gone

why did you chose this moment to pass before me?

you could have just sat, perched, rested

you could have just watched me pass by

I wasn’t even heading towards you, I was on a different path, going no where in particular

we collided with such force, you were left lifeless, I with sorrow and guilt

I had to keep going, but I will return to this exact spot one day

the place where accident or fate introduced us

maybe I will see your pretty feathers and delicate features

but I know you will be gone

I hope your wings were not broken

I hope you flew away

I am sorry little birdie
